Monster Lake Chelan fish sets state record

Friday, February 8, 2013by  Jon Osterberg

A Wenatchee man caught a state-record lake trout in Lake Chelan Feb. 4, a whopping 35-pound, 10-ounce, 44-inch-long mackinaw that was weighed at Lake Chelan Community Hospital.
Phil Colyar caught the fish near Kelly’s Resort on the lake’s southwest shore, 13 miles north of the town of Chelan. He hooked it on a flatfish lure 270 feet below the surface and fought the lunker for 35 minutes before landing it in his boat. Colyar feared his 18-pound-test line would snap. “I was sweating bullets,” he said. Read The Wenatchee World story.
