My 20-something’s landed back in the nest. What’s that mean for my insurance?

January 3, 2021 by PEMCO Insurance

Since the pandemic hit, one in five parents has had an adult child move back home, according to a USA Today survey, with a majority of 18- to 29-year-olds now living with their parents – a new high-water mark since the Great Depression.

Here's what all that family togetherness might mean for your insurance:

GettyImages-1187451220.jpgHomeowners insurance. Will your adult child be storing an apartment full of furniture at your place? Bringing any high-value items like jewelry, artwork or musical instruments? If so, we can increase your personal property limits or, if needed, add extra coverage to protect particular items. And if you're planning some remodeling to accommodate your new roommate? We can adjust your coverage to protect that investment, too.

Auto insurance. We need to know about all drivers living in your household. Will your child be adding their car to your policy? Driving your vehicles? Keeping their own insurance? We can update your policy the same day you call.

Umbrella insurance. If you don't already have that extra $1 to $5 million layer of liability coverage, now might be the time to consider it with more visitors likely to stop by your home or, perhaps, even ride in your vehicles.

You're not in this alone! If you have questions, talk with your local PEMCO agent or call 1-800-GO-PEMCO.
