Six weekend to-dos BESIDES changing your clocks

March 11, 2021 by PEMCO Insurance

This Sunday, remember to set your clocks forward one hour for Daylight Savings Time. But don't stop there! Spring Foward means more than just some extra sunshine. It's also a great time to tackle these semiannual chores to keep your home and family safe:

  1. Replace batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. And, if a detector is older than 10 years, it's time to replace the entire unit.
  2. Vacuum your refrigerator's condenser coils. Unplug it first and remove the base grille. It will run more efficiently without the dust and grime.
  3. Rotate water, medication and semi-perishable packaged food in your emergency kit. Change the batteries in flashlights.
  4. Update your insurance video inventory with notable new purchases made during the fall and winter.
  5. Schedule a professional dryer-vent cleaning if it's been more than a year since your last cleaning.
  6. Practice escaping from your home at least twice a year. Press the smoke alarm test button or yell “Fire“ to alert everyone that they must get out.
