Yes, everybody goes to Multnomah Falls – and there’s a reason it’s so popular: it’s a quick trip east from Portland, it’s beautiful, and it’s a relatively easy hike up to the top. If you’ve got very small children, you might want to stick with walking up the short (.2 miles) footpath to the Benson Bridge, which crosses over the lower falls. Older kids (I’d say ages 6+) will be fine making the 1-mile trek to the top. There are lots of switchbacks and about 600 feet of elevation gain, but the view of the gorge from the platform at the top of the falls is worth it!
Take the Historic Columbia River Highway to get there – it’s a scenic drive, with waterfalls galore!
