NW Poll: Even on vacation, home is top of mind
Vacation is supposed to be a chance to unplug, recharge, and leave daily worries behind. But for many Pacific Northwesterners, concerns about what's happening back home are coming along for the trip.
According to a recent PEMCO Insurance Northwest Poll, more than half (51%) of Washington and Oregon residents worry something could happen to their home while they're away traveling. For nearly one in four (24%), those concerns are rooted in experience, with respondents reporting they've already dealt with a home-related issue while on a trip.
Those concerns are shaping how people prepare before leaving town. More than half of residents (52%) say they secure outdoor access points before traveling, while 44% activate security systems or home-monitoring apps for added peace of mind.
But even with technology making it easier to keep an eye on things from afar, many travelers aren't fully disconnecting. Among those who use home-monitoring tools, 40% say they check security apps frequently while away.
Interestingly, the most common precaution wasn't high-tech at all. More than half of residents (57%) say they rely on a trusted neighbor, friend, or family member to check on their home while they're traveling, highlighting the continued importance of community connections.
A little preparation before leaving home can help travelers spend less time worrying about what's happening back home and more time enjoying their time away.
To help homeowners worry less while they're away, PEMCO members can purchase the Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff from Moen at a preferred rate, helping detect leaks and shut off water before small issues become major problems.
