South Lake Union: A neighborhood of surprises

Saturday, August 10, 2013by  Mason Luvera

Since PEMCO has called the South Lake Union area home since our founding, the WALLY team was excited to once again join this year’s SLU Block Party to celebrate everything our vibrant neighborhood has to offer.  The Block Party, which hosts many of the businesses, eateries and stores in SLU, is a great way to explore the many great offerings we have right in our own back yard and meet the people that make SLU the hip place it is.

For those that spend time in the SLU neighborhood, meeting someone who is unique and memorable is not uncommon.  Jim B. approached us at our booth with an unusual request: he wanted to photograph our wooden bears carved by our very own Roadside Chainsaw Woodcarver for a chainsaw art competition. We’re used to our bears getting plenty of attention so of course, we agreed!

Jim said he always joked about entering chainsaw art competitions, and now with a perfect picture of our bears, he now has the opportunity to do so!

This goes to show that one person's unique hobby of woodcarving provides an opportunity for another. Jim was just one fellow SLU neighbor we met throughout the day. With all the unique personalities in this part of town, it goes to show that when you’re a part of the SLU neighborhood, you are a part of something a little different!
