Rowdy passengers worse than texting?

Hey, teen driver – a new study says that rowdy passengers might cause you to crash more than texting or talking on a cell phone.
Teen drivers in the study were six times more likely to crash or lose control when there was a loud conversation in the car. They also were twice as likely to need to stop or brake hard with rowdy passengers.
Researchers think that passenger behavior is more dangerous because it’s out of the driver’s control, unlike using electronic devices.
The study of newly licensed North Carolina teens, reported in the Journal of Adolescent Health, was based on in-car cameras that captured 24,000 clips of the drivers over six months.
The results seem to support Washington’s and Oregon’s graduated-license laws that ban teen passengers (except family members) for the first six months of driving.
