For decades, huge crowds have converged east of Tacoma each September to “do the Puyallup.” Most locals call it the Puyallup Fair, even though its official title has long been the Western Washington Fair.
Starting next year, attendees will do the Puyallup at the renamed Washington State Fair, intended to better reflect the size and stature of the event, which is the largest fair in the state. More than 1 million attend each year, making it among the nation’s largest fairs.
Promoters say the name change will help in recruiting big-name musicians and entertainers. Read the Tacoma News Tribune article.
