When you're backing out of a parking spot, how far do you continue to roll back once you've turned to face forward? If you say, "I don't roll back at all," you might be surprised. Many of us roll back as much as an extra eight feet – tricked by an optical illusion!

Check out this video to find out how to stop phantom backing with two simple steps.

When backing out of a parking space, if possible, turn the steering wheel to the left so that the vehicle's left rear end is turning into an area that you can completely see from the driver's side window, side mirror and windshield mirror.

If one must turn the steering wheel to the right, be extra vigilant, alert and attentive, as the right rear end of the vehicle can not be seen from the driver's perspective!
