Oregon to vote on immigrant driver's licenses

Wednesday, September 10, 2014by  Jon Osterberg

Oregon voters soon will decide whether undocumented immigrants should receive special licenses allowing them to drive.
Proponents say the driver's licenses would make roads safer because undocumented immigrants would have to pass a driving test and know traffic laws to get licensed. Some also argue that if they're licensed, they're more likely to buy car insurance.
Opponents say the law would encourage illegal immigration.
An August poll by NW Market Research suggests two-thirds of Oregon voters will vote against Measure 88.
The proposed law will be on Oregon's November ballot.
