PEMCO's Nonprofit of the Month program gives employees a chance to champion the organizations that mean the most to them. For December, our employees nominated and chose Mary's Place.
The mission of Mary's Place is to "empower homeless women, children, and families to reclaim their lives by providing shelter, nourishment, resources, healing and hope in a safe community." Across seven crisis response shelter locations, Mary's Place provides beds for nearly 700 moms, dads, and their children each night.
Their mission and dedicated work within our community is why our employee Bill C. championed the organization to be one of our 12 for 2017:
My introduction to their good work came a few years ago when PEMCO arranged temporary sharing of an empty building that had previously housed the Evergreen Safety Council a few blocks from our former Eastlake offices. Mary's Place was able to use the space as one of their 'homes-for-now,' for families experiencing homelessness.
More recently, around this time of year, my daughters and I had a nourishing experience when we joined other volunteers at the Seattle Center, to help sort and organize donated toys and clothing for a Mary's Place holiday gift-giving celebration held for the many families they serve.
Shared experiences like the one Bill had with his family are one of the reasons we're proud to support local organizations like Mary's Place that are working to improve the quality of life in our communities.
PEMCO's Seattle office is hosting a Giving Tree for employee gift donations from Dec. 1 – 12. All items collected will benefit children and families in need this holiday season. Thank you, Mary's Place!
