Honoring Giving Tuesday and supporting youth literacy | PEMCO

November 13, 2024 by PEMCO Insurance

Blog_Season-of-Giving2024.pngYou’ve likely heard of (and even participated in!) the big shopping days called “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday.” But have you also observed the day dedicated to giving back? This year, PEMCO is honoring “Giving Tuesday” and encouraging our network (including you!) to do the same.

PEMCO is committed to creating lasting impact in our local communities and bringing people together for good. Through year-round volunteerism and giving opportunities, PEMCO supports local nonprofits in three focus areas – Youth & Education, Environment, and Safety

To honor Giving Tuesday, we’re bringing back our annual Season of Giving campaign to provide gifts for local youth in need. This year, we’re adding books to the gift drive in support of our commitment to youth literacy. The toys and books donated will benefit three nonprofits whose missions inspire us: Mary’s Place, Family Promise of Spokane, and JoyRx

As we approach the holiday season, we know it’s a crucial time to support youth in need. We’re encouraging PEMCO employees, customers, and community partners to join us in bringing joy to those who need it most. Each organization has provided a curated list of toys, games, books, and more so we know we’re providing the kind of items that are sure to bring smiles.

When we join together, we can help these organizations deliver on their critical missions and help ignite a love for reading in the youth of the PNW.

We encourage you to make an impact by making an online donation now through Dec. 11, 2024.

What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a "global generosity movement." Founded in 2012 as a direct response to near-constant shopping many of us engage in throughout the holidays, it's an opportunity to do good and think beyond ourselves.

We’re honored to support three local nonprofits that are doing great work for our local youth that need it most through our Season of Giving effort.

  • Meet Mary’s Place: This Seattle-based organization works to ensure that no child sleeps outside. They envision a community in which everyone has safety, stability, and housing by putting equity and opportunity at the forefront for women and families. In 2023, Mary’s Place served 836,937 meals to families in need and helped find 270,173 warm places to stay overnight for women and families.

  • Meet Family Promise of Spokane: The goal of Family Promise is to equip families and communities to break the cycle of homelessness. Many people don’t realize that family homelessness is the fastest growing segment of the homeless population in the United States. Family Promise focuses on connecting homeless families in Spokane County with those in their own neighborhood, increasing support networks and teaching and reinforcing the skills needed to maintain housing. Every child deserves a home.

  • Meet JoyRxThe goal of JoyRx is simple: To help every child—no matter where they are on their health journey—to feel joy. One song, one drumbeat, and one connection at a time. JoyRx is a Portland, Oregon-based organization that has revolutionized what pediatric support can look like. With the services provided by JoyRx (which include music, nature, and mentorship programs), children can find joy even during life’s toughest moments.

How can I be a part of the Season of Giving?

As we close out the year and celebrate Giving Tuesday on Dec. 3, 2024, we invite you to join us in providing donations to help these organizations deliver not only life-changing support, but also smiles and moments of joy for kids who need them most.

From now through Dec. 11, you can be a part of our Season of Giving by donating through the secure YouGiveGoods platform. Each nonprofit has a unique shopping cart to fit the needs of the youth they're serving. Gifts include clothing, games, toys, and books.

As we reflect on what we’re grateful for, we’re proud to have such a strong community to help us make  an impact in our Northwest communities. We’re better together.
