A 14-pound black bear cub fell out of a tree Tuesday in Phoenix, Ore., and rescuers are deciding its fate.
The cub, believed to be between 9 and 12 months old, is severely underweight and might be unhealthy. If so, state biologists may euthanize it rather than rehabilitate and release it.
Typically, cubs born in the region weigh 40 to 60 pounds when winter begins.
If the cub is unhealthy, it's certainly not lethargic – an Associated Press article said the bear was "too rambunctious for further examination" to confirm its gender.
