This past weekend the PEMCO Brand Ambassadors traveled to Spokane, WA to be a part of the 2011 Jingle Bell Run/Walk benefiting the Arthritis Foundation. This is a great event that happens at many different locations throughout the holiday season, but we enjoyed Spokane for a few specific reasons.
Spokane boasts some of the most severe winters in our state, and this year is shaping up to be a doozy as well. The participants of the Spokane Jingle Bell Run are a dedicated group of individuals. The chilly Spokane weather provides an opportunity for them to be creative while trying to stay warm. Throughout the event we began to notice a trend: the cheerier individuals wore more elaborate costumes. Perhaps they had more Christmas spirit and felt the need to dress up, or perhaps they have participated in this event and know that you need a lot of clothes to stay warm. Either way it seems to me that in order to maximize holiday cheer and stave off as many shivers as possible it is in one's best interest to go wild in the costume department. We saw lots of sparkly green and red, a few elves, Santas, and even a Mrs. Claus! Some of the outfits obviously took a lot of time and effort to make and assemble. Even some of the canine companions were decked out in holiday garb. We met a chihuahua named Lucy that had her own snow boots!
The Spokane Jingle Bell Run/Walk was a big hit and we had a great time being a part of it. With the gentle snow falling all around and happy people everywhere, it's easy to see that there is just something wonderful about Spokane. We don't know if it was an excess of holiday cheer or just a strong incentive to stay warm that drove the Spokane participants to dress so festively, but we loved it. It was beginning to feel a lot like Christmas for the PBAs. We can't wait until we partake in the Seattle Jingle Bell Run/Walk in December.
