Seattle U eligible to compete for NCAA title

Friday, November 9, 2012by  Jon Osterberg

Back to the playoffs for Seattle University?
Seattle U’s basketball teams appeared in 11 NCAA Division I Tournaments between 1953–1967 and played Kentucky in 1958 for the national title, losing 84-72. Now, having moved back up to NCAA Division I, Seattle U again could compete in the NCAA playoffs.
When the Redhawks were known as the Chieftains, Seattle U produced several star NBA players including John Tresvant, Jawann Oldham, Clint Richardson, and NBA legend Elgin Baylor. In 1975, Frank Oleynick was the Seattle Sonics’ 1st-round draft choice. The school’s rich tradition ebbed when it dropped from Division I to the NAIA in 1981, but coach Cameron Dollar aims to guide this year’s team back to March Madness. Read The Seattle Times article.
