Kitsap teen driver sentenced in deadly crash

by Sharlyn Petit
Last Thursday, the 17-year-old driver in a Seabeck, Wash., crash that killed three of his classmates was sentenced to 45 to 108 weeks in juvenile detention. The teen pleaded guilty last month to three counts of vehicular homicide. Investigators say marijuana and speeding were both factors in the rollover crash.
The families of the teen victims, who were all students at Olympic High School, were present for the sentencing. The courtroom was filled with emotion. Even Judge William Houser held back tears as he spoke. Family members asked the judge for maximum sentencing and said they couldn’t yet forgive the driver, saying they would hate to see this happen to anyone in their communities.
