Those world-famous fishmongers at Pike Place Fish in Seattle announced today that halibut will be available March 25 through the fall.
For this we can thank Alaska fishermen, who catch Pacific Halibut in the Gulf of Alaska near Kodiak Island, and also in the Bering Sea. Halibut are among the largest fish in the sea and can grow to more than 8 feet long, weighing hundreds of pounds. Most live near the ocean floor along the continental shelf, and they can be caught in fewer numbers off the Washington and Oregon coast.
If you love fresh halibut cheeks, fillets, and steaks, mark March 25 on your calendar.
