Get your teen behind the wheel of a BMW for free

by Sharlyn Petit
Watch out, America. BMW is letting teens loose on racetracks in its no-cost, nationwide Teen Driving School tour, which hits the Northwest at Emerald Downs July 25 through August 2.
The BMW Teen Driving School is an interactive driving course aimed to improve teens’ driving skills through classroom lessons on driving theory and on-the-road experience (behind the wheel of a brand new BMW!). Plus, the course focuses on the dangers of distracted driving and texting.
The program’s goal is to prepare teens to handle unexpected driving hazards in the safest way possible. Reviews tout the driving school as a confidence-builder for teens, since it teaches defensive driving techniques through real-world driving scenarios such as:

  • skid control through water hazards to practice techniques to recover from a slide
  • car control exercises and guidance though tricky lane-change situations
  • effective braking to handle panic stops and avoid accidents.

The 2-hour driving course is free, but spots fill up quickly! Registration for the Emerald Downs event isn’t open yet, but you can sign up to receive an email once registration is open on BMW’s dedicated website here. Eligible drivers, ages 15-21, must have a valid learner’s permit or driver’s license to participate.
