Fees to increase Friday at Mt. Rainier, Crater Lake

Tuesday, May 19, 2015by  Jon Osterberg

Starting this Friday, it will cost you more to visit Mt. Rainier National Park.
The current $15 car fee jumps to $20 May 22, with another $5 increase slated for May 2016. Campsite fees also rise to $20 this week.
Rainier isn’t the only park raising its rates, which have remained steady at Rainier since 2006. Olympic National Park plans to do likewise, along with Grand Canyon and Yosemite. This Friday, Crater Lake also raises its car-admission fee from $10 to $15.
If you have the time and desire to visit national parks regularly, you can save a big chunk of change by buying an $80 annual pass that’s good nationwide. It also gives you access to national monuments and national forests. In the Northwest, that means places like Mount St. Helens and Newberry Volcanic monuments. See the Seattle Times article.
