A farewell from our 2018 PEMCO interns

Dear PEMCO,

From waking up early and running to make our trains and busses, to trying not to fall asleep at our desks and constantly refilling our compostable cups with coffee … our internship experience was all worth it!

For some of us, this was our first internship, but we all agreed PEMCO set high standards of what inclusion should look like in the workplace. Our internships not only challenged us, but allowed us to build life-long connections with each other as well as employees at PEMCO.

The most monumental event of this internship was working tirelessly preparing for our individual business projects. We each showcased high-level business problems with tactics for PEMCO to consider from the fresh eyes of college students.

Projects focus areas each of us took on included: integrated marketing campaigns, stakeholder mapping, Tableau reporting, text mining and machine learning, Kaizen practices, advanced analytics, and automating reports.

Not only did we learn a ton working on our individual projects, but collaborating with each other as an intern throughout the process gave us exposure and knowledge to different areas of the organization.

Other cool highlights of our internship experience included:

  • Volunteering with United Way of King County to serve meals and engage with youth in our community.

  • Delivering Top Pot donuts (yum!) to local radio stations to promote our community school supply drive, #SupplySurge.

  • Attending Lunch & Learns with PEMCO experts to learn how data analytics plays a crucial role in the insurance industry.

  • Networking with former interns at a #NationalInternDay BBQ event to hear about their career journeys after PEMCO.

  • Meeting PEMCO's Board of Directors at a Q&A lunch to share more about our projects and overall internship experience.

We want to give a huge shout out to PEMCO's intern program team, our managers, and departments. We cannot express how thankful we are for your relentless support and challenging us during these past 12 weeks.

Our internships will certainly put us ahead of the curve as we pursue our future endeavors!

Sincerely,

Your 2018 PEMCO interns
