Do you know the right way to get out of the way?


According to the 2017 PEMCO Insurance Northwest Poll, almost nine out of ten drivers say they know the right way to get out of the way of emergency vehicles.

What about you? Where do you go if you see flashing lights behind you? The answer may depend on the type of emergency.

There is a proper procedure to follow when you’re driving and see flashing lights behind you (whether it’s a fire truck, police car or emergency vehicle). How confident are you that you know the legally correct thing to do when the flashing lights are directly behind you?

PEMCO Insurance commissioned this independent survey, conducted by FBK Research of Seattle, that asked Washington and Oregon residents questions about driving habits and attitudes toward current Northwest issues. The sample size, 600 respondents in Washington and 600 in Oregon, yields an accuracy of +/- 4.1 percent at the 95 percent confidence level. In other words, if this study were conducted 100 times, in 95 instances the data will not vary by more than the associated error range.
