Question you asked: Where can I find a defensive-driving class?

If you're 55 or older, you may be able to sign up for a defensive-driving course close to home. Check with your local Department of Motor Vehicles or visit AARP and AAA online. Courses include refreshers on current rules of the road, defensive driving tips, and strategies for coping with age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time.

Just let us know if you've taken a course, and you'll qualify for a modest discount on your PEMCO auto insurance. The discount is good for a minimum of two years in Washington, and it can be renewed after that if you re-take the course. Under Oregon law, the course is good for three years if you're ages 55-69 and two years for drivers age 70 and older. Also, Oregon drivers must have no at-fault or partially at-fault accidents or moving violations to qualify.
