Thanks for flying with us!
Supercharged Seahawks Fans from across the Northwest and beyond made the trip to Glendale, Ariz. – no airfare needed – via PEMCO's 12-story 12s Fly banner. Their 42,471 signatures and 22,458 twelfies adorned the banner, which flew over Glendale in the run-up to Super Bowl XLIX. Watch the banner in flight here<.
To make sure the giant banner could reach as many fans for signing as possible, it was divided into four 50-foot by 60-foot sections and delivered to 26 signing events across Washington. Some Eastern Washington fans reported driving for more than an hour to reach the Kennewick event for their chance to sign a piece of sports history. (Fans also could sign virtually online.) Days before the big game, the pieces were sewn together in Seattle, with the faces of fans making up the giant mosaic 12 in the center.
The flag's bodacious dimensions meant it couldn't be towed by a single-engine airplane and, instead, required the upward lift of a helicopter.
Thanks to all who signed the banner and submitted photos. We're not sure of its fate, but 12s Fly might not be retired just yet. Keep your eyes on the sky at the start of next season, as the Seahawks begin their march to Super Bowl 50.
