SEATTLE – PEMCO Insurance will sponsor a shredding event Oct. 25 in Everett to support Camp Fire USA Snohomish County Council as it develops and inspires leadership, responsibility, caring, and confidence among youth in the community.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 25, PEMCO and Camp Fire USA will host the event in Everett at Fluke Corporation, located at 9028 Evergreen Way. A mobile industrial shredder provided by Shred-it will destroy all unwanted documents and electronics containing personal data.
"Shredding sensitive documents is one of the easiest ways to prevent identity fraud, and PEMCO is committed to offering community events like this to make shredding available to Northwest residents," said PEMCO spokesperson Jon Osterberg.
At the event, the public is invited to shred an unlimited amount of sensitive material. To show support for Camp Fire, participants are encouraged to make a suggested $5 donation to the organization for each box of materials shredded at the event.
"We believe in the programs Camp Fire offers," said Osterberg. "Its mission to empower youth of all ages, boys and girls, to become thoughtful and responsible community leaders is one PEMCO shares and strongly supports."
The funds raised by the shredding event will benefit Camp Fire's programs, which demonstrate the organization's commitment to providing expanded programs to all youth including those in high-density, low-income areas in the region.
In addition to paper documents like old bank and tax statements, receipts, and junk mail, Shred-it will also destroy computer hard drives on site for a required fee of $20.00 per hard drive. Compact discs, DVDs, videocassettes, and many other electronic materials will also be accepted for a required fee of $1.00 per pound and destroyed offsite. Shred-it also accepts complete desktop computers including tower, monitor and keyboard for a required fee of $50.00 each, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Camp Fire.
All materials collected at the event will be properly destroyed and recycled, which helps to keep our community safe and also protects the environment. A complete list of all "shreddable" materials may be viewed at http://www.shredit.com/weShredMore.asp.
