Our Northwest

What's your favorite NW holiday tradition?

Tuesday, November 27, 2012by  Cael Anacker

This weekend, the WALLY team didn’t have to go far to find Northwest holiday fun. Just a quick trip to Seattle’s Westlake Center for what proved to be a beautiful, clear day after the excitement of Black Friday. With our NW Profile Mugs from Bartell in tow, we hit the plaza to give away coffee cards for every mug brought to the WALLY van.

As we greeted shoppers on the plaza and helped spread some holiday cheer, we got to talking to people about their favorite Northwest holiday traditions.

The chilly waters that border our region were a popular topic. Many Northwesterners like to venture out to frolic in both the Pacific and the Puget Sound during the gray days at the end of the year.  Molly from Tacoma likes to go swimming in the Sound on Turkey Day. Further south, Elonzo drives out to Westport for some Christmas Eve surfing. He described the cold as “mind numbing” but that it makes the company of friends and family seem even warmer.

For those who like to keep warm during the holiday season, there’s a lot to do at home. Deb shared with us her gluten-free gingerbread recipe that she serves after a big holiday feast. She says her husband can’t get enough! George on the other hand prefers to get together with his friends at coffee shops and play board games on rainy December days.

Whatever you do during the holiday season here in the Northwest, you’re guaranteed to create spectacular memories. And if you are still searching for a holiday tradition to call your own, never fear! New traditions are created all the time. Just ask one little guy, Trevor, who visited us at Westlake Center and declared that his new tradition was spinning our prize wheel to win a flashlight and that he planned on returning next year to do it all again. Never fear buddy, you can rest assured that you’ll have no problems finding us and our big green van for many holiday seasons to come.
