WALLY runs around the Northwest to inspire young girls

Here’s the girls at the 5k start line!

We’ve spent all weekend running around the Northwest. No…seriously, we did, but it might not be for reasons you’d expect! We started off Saturday at Seward Park in Seattle cheering on “Girls on the Run” and ended our weekend at the Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run/Walk in Portland!

What’s Girls on the Run you ask? Well, it is an amazing international, non-profit organization that integrates running and experience-based curriculum to inspire girls to be healthy, confident and joyful while they shoot for the stars.

We were lucky enough to be able to cheer on over 400 girls graduating from the Girls on the Run program and commemorate the moment by taking their photos with their friends, families, running buddies and coaches.

Becky, a Girls on the Run program manager, took time out of the busy celebration to fill us in on the Girls on the Run Puget Sound chapter. We were very excited to hear about how many King County schools had a Girls on the Run program available, and the wonderful experiences the coaches and girls have had during their time at organization.

She also told us that the coaches and volunteers are always welcome but be warned, Sammamish Plateau coaches needn't apply!

Here’s some of the runners. This was before it was busy!

This 5k left us feeling cheery and energized for our drive to Portland for the Jingle Bell Run/Walk, and we can’t wait to help the girls celebrate their achievements at their next 5k!
