“An 18-mile odyssey around downtown Portland” is how this year’s Worst Day of the Year Ride was described to newcomers. That’s right; the Rose City offers a unique way to experience it’s downtown area, on a bicycle with hundreds of other riders, all on what is supposed to be the worst day of the year.
The WALLY team joined these riders who were prepared to take on the worst day of the year and captured photos of those who stopped by our booth.
It’s clear to see that Portland certainly accommodates the two-wheeled mode of transportation, with bike lanes around every corner. There are dozens of bike zones and bike yield signs as well. We all know what a hassle parking downtown can be, but you can avoid this if you’re traveling on your bike instead!
Given, that Portland tries to “keep…weird,” and that biking is so highly encouraged, the Worst Day of the Year Ride was the perfect event for this city. So, if you’re looking for a true Portland experience and want to tour the city, grab a bike and take part in the Worst Day of the Year Ride next year. Until then, you can join the many Portlandians who choose cycling as their mode of transportation around the city.
And, although this event was supposed to take place on the worst day of the year, we got lucky with some sunshine. So, don’t let the name of the event scare you!
