Federal budget cuts have deprived two prominent Northwest events of popular attractions.
U.S. Navy ships will not dock in Portland for the June 5–9 Rose Festival, and they’ll skip Seafair in Seattle July 31 – Aug. 4 because of the sequester. Portland’s Fleet Week will continue with Royal Canadian Navy ships and historic vessels, and Seafair says it too will host Canadian ships.
The U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels aerobatic flight team also canceled its dates at Seafair and the Hillsboro Air Show, along with all other 2013 performances. Read The Oregonian article.
Portland’s Rose Festival dates to 1907, while Seafair debuted in 1950 to commemorate Seattle’s standing as “boating capitol of the world.”
