WALLY and its loyal PEMCO Brand Ambassadors waltzed down to the Redhook Brewery in Woodinville last Saturday to lend their hands at the Stinky Spoke (also known as the Stinky Spoke Poker Run). This 18.5-mile loop displayed the area's most dedicated and talented mountain bikers. There were five stops along the route where each participant was given a random playing card. At the end, the people with the best poker hand won some fabulous prizes!
It was a frigid and snowy morning. Yet hundreds of cyclists came out to participate. While most of the city takes a break from regular activities during a snow storm, these Stinky Spoke-ers showed us the definition of dedication. They might have even earned the same motto as many attribute to the United States Postal Service: "Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."
At the very least, participants were not opposed to getting cold or dirty. Many cyclists returned from their trek caked in mud—and it didn't look like they were bothered in the slightest! Ultimately, we left with two things on our mind: we were happy to be back in the warmth, and we were impressed with the commitment of our local mountain bicyclists.
