Residents can do more to prevent crime

Perhaps Northwesterners need to mingle more in their own communities. The latest results from the PEMCO Poll show that 41% of Washington and Portland-area residents know fewer than one-quarter of their neighbors, and 87% have never participated in Night Out Against Crime. When they go on vacation, 35% said they rarely or never tell neighbors they’ll be gone. The poll also reveals that people age 55 and older are about one-third more likely to take steps to watch out for their neighbors. Learn more in this PEMCO news release, and take an informal version of the poll to see how your own answers compare with others.
