Recumbent NW biker pedals cross-country

After 3,509 miles on a recumbent bike, a 70-year-old Richland man is nearing the finish line.
Alex LaVoie left St. Augustine, Fla., on Feb. 23 bound for the West Coast, aiming for adventure and $100,000 in donations for Wounded Warrior military veterans. He pedaled via Dallas and Albuquerque, then veered north onto steep Rocky Mountain backroads with narrow shoulders until he reached Salt Lake City and, eventually, Tri-Cities.
LaVoie leaves June 17 for the final leg of his journey to Seattle. Read about his journey in the Tri-City Herald, and check out our Recumbent Bike Commuter Northwest profile.
