I’ve see TV shows about buyers finding amazing vintage cars in barns and thought to myself, “Well, they’re probably aren’t any more of those to find around here.”
Wrong. One Longview couple now enjoys cruising town in a 1957 Chevrolet BelAir – identical to their first car – thanks to their son, who bought it out of a southern Oregon barn.
In May, the son surprised his parents with the car on their 50th wedding anniversary.
Louis McGill Sr. bought his first ’57 Chevy in Longview in 1962 for $645, but a short time later he blew the engine and lost the car.
Louis Jr. spent considerable time and expense finding his dad a replacement. In fact, he began searching in 1988. Junior’s work paid off when he drove the “new” car to his parents’ 50th anniversary party at Kelso’s Sons of Norway Hall and saw his dad’s surprised face.
