On the Police Beat with 2,000 Feet: Fun with the Fuzz 5K

Josh, Pat and I road-tripped Wally 1 out of the city and up I-5 Friday evening. We skirted right of a few oblivious left-lane occupants, held off the urge to join the tulip devotees in Skagit county and coasted in to scenic Bellingham for the Bellingham Police Department's "Fun with the Fuzz" 5k run on Saturday morning.  With nearly a thousand participants, the event raised close to $20,000 to support the Behind the Badge Foundation, which benefits the families of police officers killed in the line of duty.

Some came to race, some to support the local PD. Jenna of Bellingham remarked that the police have always represented safety to her and that they have been an important presence and factor in her ability to make early morning runs. Still others, like the Skagit County dozen, who wore T-shirts reading "Heroes," came to honor a fallen friend and colleague.

The race is underway!

For those who didn't cross the finish line first, there was still the chance to walk away as a winner. We played host to 22 of the Fuzz's giveaway prizes, handing them out to lucky raffle winners. The grand prize was a Porsche for a weekend of the winner's choosing. Last year, a lucky groom used the opportunity to walk straight out of the procession of the church aisle and into 6th gear with his bride, trailing "Just Married" signs.

Thanks to all who came out to the event to support a worthy cause and to share their love of the PEMCO profiles!
