Local food banks soon will spill over with spuds thanks to a high-scoring football game.
WSU’s Cougars beat Oregon State 39-32 on Nov. 8, netting food banks 71,000 pounds of potatoes from the Washington and Oregon potato commissions. That’s 107,000 servings for needy people as the holidays draw near.
Initially, because WSU won, the Oregon commission was committed to pay off the bet: 500 pounds of potatoes for each point scored. But then Washington’s commission agreed to match the bet.
