Saying 'yes' to the (prom) dress

Friday, April 15, 2016by  Sharlyn Petit

With all the talk about the extreme expenses of prom, we were excited to come across a story about a Nathan Hale High School teen helping girls in need find their perfect (free) prom ensemble through a senior project called the “Fairy Godmother Project.”

With help from community donations and local businesses, senior Alexis Landis collected over 200 dresses and hundreds of accessories to outfit prom-goers head to toe. And, each girl was set up with her own Fairy Godmother stylist to handle all the finishing touches.

After some searching, we found a few other Northwest organizations with the similar mission of providing free formal wear for prom and other memorable events.

After this prom season, consider donating formal wear to help create lasting memories for deserving high school teens. The organizations listed above, and many others, take year-round donations of gently used evening gowns, bridesmaid attire, shoes, handbags, and jewelry.
