Frequently asked questions

Q: Why should I carry Personal Injury Protection coverage when I have an excellent medical plan through my employer?
A: Your medical plan may not give you enough protection. For example, Personal Injury Protection applies not only to you, but to your passengers, too. It also pays for loss of income and essential services that must be performed as a result of the injury. These services might include prosthetic devices, ambulance services, prescription glasses, blood products, or physical therapy.

Q: Since Washington state requires all drivers to carry Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability Insurance, why do I need to carry Underinsured Motorist coverage?
A: You may be hit by a driver who's not abiding by the law or is from a state where insurance isn't mandatory. You also may find your injuries, or those of your passengers, cost more than the at-fault driver's liability coverage limits.

Q: What do I do if I get in an automobile accident?
A: Move your car to the side of the road, if possible. You'll want to gather details from the other party. Next, report the accident to police. Then you'll need to call PEMCO so we can help you with your claim. For information about the claims process, click here.

Q: How do I get my car repaired?

Q: Do I get a discount if I have both my auto and home insurance with PEMCO?
A: Yes, you get up to a 10% discount on both policies.

Q: My children attend school out of state. Do I still need to keep them on my policy even though they won't be driving?
A: If there's any chance they may come home to visit and use your vehicle, you should keep them on your policy. You can reduce your rate by applying our Distant Student Discount and Good Student Discount, if applicable.
